Tamale, May 25, GNA - Metropolitan, Municipal and District Directorates of the Ghana Education Service (GES), have been asked to submit list of all eligible teachers on professional allowances to the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission before May 31, 2010.
The Directorates are to submit among other things the salary levels and grades of the eligible teachers.
Mr Paul Atanga, National President of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) gave the directive at the end of a two-day orientation seminar organised for regional council members and the district secretaries of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) drawn from the Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions in Tamale on Tuesday. He said the allowances to be paid to the teachers included 15 per cent professional allowance, 20 per cent to teachers in deprived areas and 10 per cent allowances to teachers of mathematics, science, ICT, vocational and technical subjects.
Mr Atanga said government had given the undertaking to pay the professional allowances at the end of June 2010 and the arrears due from January to May would be paid in three tranches in July, August and October 2010.
He said the other allowances namely; the deprived areas, science, mathematics, ICT, technical, vocational and supervisory allowances would be considered within the implementation of the Single Spine Pay Policy. The GNAT President called on all stakeholders interested in the provision of quality public education to continue to support the Association in its advocacy for continued state funding for public education, particularly in the area of provision of educational infrastructure and supply of educational inputs. 25 May 10
