The Head of Supervision of the New Juaben Municipal Education Directorate, Mr Peter Odei, has appealed to early childhood teachers to teach the children through play using games, drama and participatory methods.
That way, he said, the children would understand the issues better and would enjoy learning which is critical for building a foundation for higher education.
Mr Odei, who was speaking at the 11th graduation ceremony of Aggrey Early Childhood Development Centre at Koforidua explained that at an early age, children did not need any routine learning schedules but the use of songs, rhymes and poems in lessons to generate interest to enable them to appreciate education.
He said early childhood education was key to good educational foundation and required the utmost attention by all stakeholders especially parents.
Mr Odei advised parents to give opportunities for verbal interaction with their children and explained that conversation between parents and children influenced language and vocabulary development.
The educationist also urged parents to serve as both teachers and role models by reading frequently to the children since that encourages reading in children.
A kindergarten and primary school department of the school was also inaugurated.
Mrs Patricia Osei-Appaw, proprietress of the school, said the kindergarten and primary department is equipped with video, audio-visual equipments and projectors.
