Educationist urges teachers to be patriotic

Mr Hayford Osei Kwadwo, National Chairman of Conference of Directors of Education (CODE), has appealed to teachers to be patriotic and redouble their efforts to improve the performance of students.

He said Directors of Education and Heads of Educational Institutions should have cordial and favourable working relationships with their teachers to win their support and confidence.

Mr Osei made the call at a send-off party for Madam Phillippa Banson, the out-going Nkoranza Municipal Director of Education at Nkoranza.

He said teachers were major stakeholders in national development since education was the bedrock of development therefore, teachers should maintain their dignity and contribute effectively towards Ghana’s development.

Mr Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, Member of Parliament for Nkoranza South, in an address on his behalf commended Madam Banson for working hard and also for her efforts at improving the fallen standard of education in the Municipality during her tenure of office.

He said Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results between 2010 and 2013 improved from 54.44 per cent in 2010, to 73.45 per cent in 2011, then 88.38 per cent in 2012 and 91.26 per cent in 2013.

Mr Agyekum, who is also the Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, expressed appreciation to the staff of the Directorate and the teachers for the improvement in education.

Madam Stella Amoatemaa, Nkoranza Municipal Chief Executive, commended Madam Banson for serving the Municipality for 39 years.

Madam Banson appealed to teachers, parents and the general public to forgive her for any mistake made during her tenure of office.

In a citation, staff of the Municipal Directorate of Education expressed appreciation to Madam Banson for her hard work and efforts in collaborating with stakeholders in the communities to enhance education in the Municipality.
