Sekondi, Nov. 4, GNA - Dr Sylvester Anemana, Western Regional Director of Health Services on Tuesday said access to information on drug availability, uses and side effects was very important in the present Ghana Health Service (GHS) structure.
He said without it, many practitioners and the public would be prescribing and consuming large quantities of poison on a daily basis. Dr Anemana said this at a day's sensitisation meeting organised by the GHS on the National Drug Information Resource Centre (NDIRC) at Sekondi for health-care professionals and the public.
He said due to the rapid production of drugs, it would be proper for the public to have regular updates on drugs and thereby improve the quality of health care in the country.
Mr. Philip Anum, Head and National Coordinator of the NDIRC, said the proliferation of new drugs, poses serious challenges to medical personnel and cautioned them not to use any new drug they do not know much about its side effects.
