Winneba (C/R), June 22, GNA - The Minister of Transport and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Mr Mike Hammah, has visited some flooded areas and its the victims in Winneba to assess the extent of damage caused by the heavy downpour at the dawn of Saturday. No casualties were reported.
The MP was accompanied Nii Ephraim, Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Kojo Asmah Bondzie, Effutu Constituency Chairman, National Democratic Congress (NDC) and some NDC activists. They visited Pankye and Aboadze, where erosion has washed away part of the sea defence wall and a portion of the road. They also visited the A.M.E. Zion Girls Senior High School where the hostels were flooded and items costing thousands of Ghana Cedis were destroyed.
The MP directed the Assembly that GHC2,000 be taken from his Common Fund to purchase some text books and provisions for the students while efforts were made to secure some relief items from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) for the victims. The MCE also presented a cash of GHC1,000 for the purchase of cement for the reconstruction of the fence around the school, which was destroyed by the floods.
Addressing the people at Pankye and Aboadze, the MP expressed his sympathy for the victims and advised them to stop dumping refuse indiscriminately, especially in gutters.
