Effutu records 70 fire incidents in 2025

A total of 70 fire incidents were recorded in the Effutu Municipality from January to December 2025, compared to 74 in 2024.

Assistant Divisional Officer I (ADO I) Dery Vitus Domegyiele, the Effutu Municipal Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), attributed the slight reduction to improved public adherence to fire safety measures through sustained education by the Service.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Winneba, ADO I Domegyiele, said the station attended to 15 commercial and 21 domestic fires in 2025, compared to 17 commercial and 25 domestic fires in 2024.

He said cases of bushfires reduced from 29 in 2024 to 27 in 2025, while that of vehicles increased from three in 2024 to five in 2025, with two electrical fire outbreaks recorded in 2025 as against zero in 2024.

ADO I Domegyiele stated that four false alarms with good intention were recorded in 2025 compared to two in 2024.

Accident case attended to, reduced from 24 in 2024 to 19 in 2025 and the station recorded no cases of bee invasion, rescue operations, persons trapped in wells or collapsed buildings in 2025.

Overall emergencies declined from 128 in 2024 to 96 in 2025.

Divisional Officer II Frederick Adu-Poku, the Effutu Municipal Divisional Commander of the GNFS, in a related interview, attributed the decline in highway accidents along the Kasoa–Winneba junction–Mankessim stretch, to the ongoing road construction and installation of speed ramps, which had reduced over-speeding and dangerous overtaking.

He urged drivers to remain disciplined to reduce motor accidents on the stretch.

On fire outbreaks, DO II Adu-Poku credited the drop in reported cases to weekly radio education and daily market engagements and reminded the public that fire prevention was a shared responsibility and urged all to adhere to safety regulations.

He advised residents to consult the Fire Service before burning weeds during the dry season and to ensure electrical appliances are switched off when leaving homes, shops, or offices.

He stated that the Service was looking forward to adding institutional education to help reduce fire outbreaks to the barest minimum in 2026 and encouraged the public adhere to safety rules, for an accident- and incident-free environment to support national development.
