Eighty vulnerable go thorough skills training in Ablekuma North

The Department of Social Welfare and Community Development in the Ablekuma North Municipal Assembly has organised 80 vulnerable young men and women drawn from across the municipality to take them through skills training.

The five-day training on the theme "Enhancing the Capacity of the Vulnerable Through Skills Training" is being sponsored by the municipal assembly.

In a speech read on his behalf, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Mr. Kofi Ofori said the training was intended to support and raise the small and medium enterprise in the municipality.

Mr. Ofori said the assembly was mindful of President Akuffo-Addo’s vision of ‘’Agenda for Job Creation-Equal Opportunities for All’’; hence the training at the grass root level to ensure the creation of jobs for all without taking into account the religious, ethnic background or gender of individuals.

The programme he said, will be organised annually to ensure that as many people as possible within the municipality acquired some means of livelihood.

The Head of the assembly’s Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, Madam Lydia Akitah said the objective of her department was to facilitate the mobilisation and use of available human and material resources to improve the living standard of individuals, groups, families and communities with an effective system of decentralisation.

Madam Akitah said during the training, beneficiaries would be taken through Interior Décor, Soaps and Detergent Making, Facial or Make-Up Skills and Beads Work.

She encouraged the beneficiaries to take the training seriously to ensure a positive impact on their living standards and also touch the lives of others.

Madam Akitah said the participants were selected under strict scrutiny with the assistance of assembly members and other opinion leaders from across the municipality.

She said the beneficiaries would be given start-up inputs to ensure that they would be in a position to start something on their own after the training.

A participant, Ms Grace Mensah who spoke to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) expressed appreciation to the assembly for the opportunity given to her to learn beads making.

Ms Mensah said even though she has learnt dress making, she had no shop to start sewing so learning the beads would hopefully add value to her work in the future since, she would be able to sell some beads to her potential clients in the future for additional income.
