Ejisu (Ash), March 16, GNA - The Ejisu-Juaben Municipal Assembly on Tuesday failed to elect a Presiding Member (PM) after two rounds of voting.
The contest was a straight battle between Mr Nicholas Owusu-Sekyere, immediate past PM, and Mr Johnson Aning-Dei. None of the two could secure the mandatory two-thirds majority votes and this forced the assembly to re-schedule the election to Tuesday, March 22.
Earlier, Dr Christine Amoako-Nuamah, a former Minister of State, had performed the ceremony to officially induct the members into office for a four-year term.
The event attracted a big gathering, including chiefs, political party representatives and heads of department. Dr (Mrs) Amoako-Nuamah urged the members to work with the common goal of improving the living conditions of the people in the municipality. They should be accountable and stay in constant touch with their people so as to better articulate their development concerns. The Member of Parliament (MP), Mr Kwabena Owusu-Aduomi, called for unity, understanding and cooperation among the members. He said this was necessary for the promotion of the smooth operation of the assembly.
