Ejisu, March 16, GNA - Mr Yaw Ahenkora Afrifa, acting Ejisu-Juabeng District Chief Executive, has denied receiving 20 bags of cement from the chief of Adadeako, Nana Gyesi Berko.
The 20 bags of cement formed part of 200 bags delivered to the chief by the Ejisu-Juabeng District Assembly for implementation of a school project in the town.
Mr Afrifa told the GNA that the allegation was untrue and was designed to tarnish his reputation and his integrity. He said the assembly gave the chief 200 bags of cement and six packets of roofing sheets, following a request by the community for materials to complete a school project.
The project was initiated by a volunteer group from the American Peace Corps but in the process of execution, got short of materials and the community made the request for assistance from the district assembly.
The DCE said the unit committee and people of the community asked the chief to account for the materials since they were suspicious that only a fraction of the materials were used on the project. Mr Afrifa said the chief accounted for 180 bags and said the remaining 20 bags could not be accounted for since he had offered them to the DCE.
The DCE said the chief later said it was "not he the DCE but that the cement was given to Mr Kinsley Sanchery, the District Planning Officer, in appreciation of his budgeting and support for the project". The Planning Officer admitted that the chief handed over 20 bags of cement to him but he directed Mr Adjei Bismark, a driver of the assembly, to deposit it at the residence of the DCE. However when the GNA contacted the driver, he also denied conveying 20 bags of cement to the residence of the DCE.
