Kokofu (Ash.) April 20 GNA- The slow pace of work on the 39- kilometre Ejisu- Kuntanase-Bekwai road, was the major source of worry at a People's Assembly at Kokofu in the Amansie East District on Tuesday. The project awarded over 52 months ago and due for completion in 24 months is now shifted to December this year.

Mr Samuel Kyei-Mensah, the Bekwai Road Area Manager of the Ghana Highways, who responded to the concerns of the people, said the contractors have been directed to complete the 22-kilometre Ejisu-Kuntanase stretch by the end of May and move vigorously to tackle the remaining 17 kilometres running from Kunatanase to Bekwai. Mr Kyei-Mensah said the Anhwiankwanta-Bekwai-Adansi Praso road, which is also in bad state had been awarded on contract, saying the contractors would move to the project site by the end of next month. The District Chief Executive, Mr Richard Aboagye, who reviewed the performance of the District Assembly during the past four years, announced a significant progress on the balance sheet.

He said for three years running, the assembly was able to exceed its internally generated revenue targets.

In 2002, the Assembly targeted 822 million cedis as revenue but realised 1.018 billion cedis representing an increase 122 per cent. He said in 2003, the target was 1.1 billion cedis but the revenue generated stood at 1.823 billion cedis while 1.990 billion instead of the targeted 1.388 billion cedis was collected last year.
