The Ejisu Municipal Assembly is taking steps to move the main Ejisu market located on the verge of the main Kumasi-Accra highway, to another location.
Habib Mohammed, Ejisu Municipal Coordinating Director, said the decision is in response to public complaints about the present site which causes huge vehicular traffic congestion – a big inconvenience to commuters and a major risk to the traders and pedestrians.
The Co-ordinating Director dropped the hint when answering a question on the safety of the traders and pedestrians at a Town Hall meeting organized by the Ejisu Information Service Department (ISD) at Ejisu.
“The Ministry of Local Government is supporting the Municipal Assembly to move the market to a safer site and the drawings had already been completed,” he added.
Mr. Mohammed said the new market is located around the Anita Hotel area in the same Municipality and that, the new marketplace, would have facilities for a Day Care Centre, Bus Terminal, Clinic and Toilets.
He said broader public consultations is ongoing to solicit inputs for the project for work to begin soon.
