Ejisu to get potable water in 2007

Ejisu (Ash), April 04, GNA - Ejisu, Fumesua and Kwamo in the Ejisu-Juaben District have been included in the second phase of the Small Town Water Project that will commence in 2007. Mr Yaw Ahenkora Afrifa, the Ejisu-Juaben District Chief Executive, stated this in answer to concerns raised at the People's Assembly at Ejisu on Monday.

The meeting, which was addressed by Mr Sampson Kwaku Boafo, Ashanti Regional Minister and other heads of departments and agencies, was aimed at educating the public on government policies and programmes and also solicit their views on the policies and programmes. The people voiced their frustration at the lack of potable water in these towns particularly Ejisu, the district capital, which is fast growing into an urban status and rapidly extending towards Kumasi. They therefore urged the government and the district assembly to provide these communities with water.

The people also expressed concern about the deplorable nature of roads in the district and called for appropriate measures to rehabilitate them.

The farmers amongst them complained about the lack of ready market for their farm produce, especially vegetables and maize, and suggested to the government to establish buying centres for food crops to help reduce post harvest losses in the country.

Mr Afrifa had earlier announced that the government was constructing a 4.6-billion-cedi new market for Ejisu.

The Regional Minister mentioned the introduction of the Capitation Grant, the school-feeding programme and the National Health Insurance Scheme and the stability of the economy as some of the achievements of the government.

He appealed to the people to continue to support the government to ensure the successful implementation of these laudable programmes.
