Winneba, July 23, GNA - Mr. Isaac Botwe, Winneba District Manager of the Electricity Company of Ghana, has expressed concern about the rate at which people were stealing electricity cables during blackouts. He therefore appealed to the residents to assist to apprehend the culprits to save the company losing huge sums of money. Mr. Botwe said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency following the arrest of a man suspected of belonging to a cable-stealing gang at Winneba.
Winneba, July 23, GNA - Mr. Isaac Botwe, Winneba District Manager of the Electricity Company of Ghana, has expressed concern about the rate at which people were stealing electricity cables during blackouts. He therefore appealed to the residents to assist to apprehend the culprits to save the company losing huge sums of money. Mr. Botwe said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency following the arrest of a man suspected of belonging to a cable-stealing gang at Winneba. He said cables were stolen at Anglican School, Sir Charles Methodist Primary School and Eyigyaa areas of the town between January and March. Cables were also stolen at Ridge, Obonoma, Waterworks road and Eyigyaa Lodge areas from April to July 20. Mr. Botwe said millions of cedis spent to restore power to the affected areas could have been used to extend power to some communities. He appealed to the communities to form watchdog committees to protect the cables. 23 July 07
