The Elephant Unity Project, a grassroots movement within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has issued a strong call for unity and discipline among party members as the party navigates its post-2024 future and prepares for the 2028 elections.

In a statement released and signed by its convener, Abdul Ganiyu Alhassan, the group commended the “statesmanlike step” taken by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in hosting a recent Unity Breakfast Meeting, where all five presidential aspirants pledged to conduct peaceful, issues-based campaigns.

“The NPP stands at a historic moment — a moment that demands unity over division, principle over personal ambition, and loyalty to the collective good over loyalty to individual camps,” the statement read.

While praising the efforts toward reconciliation, the Elephant Unity Project emphasised that “unity cannot be left to chance or speeches alone.”

The group declared its commitment to actively defend the party’s image and legacy from internal attacks, stressing that unity must be demonstrated through action at all levels of the party.

“We will not stay silent when the party’s name, past administrations, or leaders are deliberately attacked by those seeking internal advantage,” the group stated.

“We will openly call out and reject any aspirant or supporter who attempts to win by dividing the party, spreading bitterness, or discrediting the legacy of former leaders like President John Agyekum Kufuor and President Nana Akufo-Addo.”

The statement also noted that the project’s focus is not about backing any specific presidential hopeful but about safeguarding the NPP’s values and continuity.

“This is not about supporting any one presidential hopeful. This is about protecting the NPP — the tradition, the legacy, and the future,” the statement said.

“You can raise your voice for your preferred candidate. But raise your voice louder for the party.”

Using vivid imagery, the group urged supporters to remember that “when the elephant is divided, the hunters rejoice. But when the elephant walks together, no forest can stop it.”

The Elephant Unity Project disclosed that it will continue to engage party elders, former presidents, grassroots leaders, and stakeholders nationwide to consolidate unity within the NPP.

According to the statement, several Members of Parliament, former appointees, and dedicated party officers have already expressed their support for the initiative.

As the statement concluded: “This is our duty. This is our moment. This is our unity call.”

The Elephant Unity Project describes itself as a coalition of polling station executives, TESCON members, diaspora patriots, former and current appointees, and other loyal NPP supporters committed to preserving party cohesion and promoting issue-based leadership as the NPP prepares for the 2028 general elections.
