Mr Daniel Eshun, Ellembelle District Chief Executive on Friday called on the newly created District National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to intensify registration of clients particularly in the northern parts of the area.
He made the call when inaugurating the office of the Ellembelle District NHIS, which used to be part of the Nzema East Municipal NHIS, at Nkroful.
Mr Eshun said the NHIS has not registered many clients in the northern parts of the district and this must be addressed.
He urged personnel of NHIS to be accommodating and tolerant to clients for the people to embrace the scheme.
Mr Eshun said the District Assembly is fully committed to the scheme and would give the NHIS the necessary support to reach out to all corners of the district.
He said the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Mr Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, has promised to give the district NHIS a “Loan” for its operations.
Mr Eshun said he was working with the MP, who is also the Minister of Energy, to ensure the loan was made available to the district NHIS.
Mr Windham Emil Afram, Western Regional Manager of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), said the NHIS was a government intervention to bring health to the doorsteps of the people.
He said the people should take advantage of the scheme to meet their health needs.
“The people should own and patronize the scheme so that its objectives will be achieved”, Mr Afram said.
