Parade contingents from 31 schools in the environs of Komenda-Edina-Eguafo -Abirem (KEEA) Municipality have taken part in the 55th independence anniversary celebrations held in Elmina under the command of Major Godfred Boafo.

Five thousand students joined in the celebration which included schools like Eguafo Junior High School Army Cadet, Elmina Methodist Junior High Naval Cadet, and the Elmina Methodist Church.

Mr Isaac Kweku Sam, Municipal Chief Executive for KEEA, described the theme for the celebrations ‘Sustaining Peace and Democracy for National Unity’ as appropriate and reminded Ghanaians that it was imperative for all to sustain the peace during and after this year’s elections.

He said though the country’s democratic dispensation was still young, it has achieved an enviable democratic record in Africa which must not be taken for granted.

The MCE reminded the students to take their studies very seriously and avoid social vices such as ‘sakawa’, drug abuse, occultism, homosexuality among others, and urged them to pay more attention to their studies to justify the investments their parents and the government were making in their education.

He advised all Ghanaians to stay united “for it was in unity that our forefathers attained the independence, not forgetting in unity, is development”.

Three schools, Hollywood primary, Hollywood JHS, and Peter Holbrook SHS emerged winners for the primary, JHS and SHS categories in the parade.
