Nii Moses Appleh, acting Deputy Director of the Ghana Institute of Languages, has said it is important for the educational curriculum to lay more emphasis on inculcating social and moral values in the youth.

He said until this is done, we will continue to see the training of people whose paramount interest would be the ability to survive with no regard to the laws of the land.

Nii Appleh said this during the maiden graduation and speech and prize-giving day of the Golden Stars International School at Oduman, in the Ga West District in Accra.

He said the nation would witness better living standards “when we are able to imbue in the current learners with positive values that will reflect in their adult lives.

Nii Appleh said the failure of the educational system to adopt the inclusion of such social and moral values could lead to the growth of bribery and corruption at all levels in the society.

Nii Pabie I, the Chief of Pabieman, who was the guest speaker at the event, appealed to parents and guardians to focus mainly of the education of their wards.

He said with the pace of technological advancement there would come a time that if one was not well educated he or she cannot partake in certain professions including farming and driving.

Nii Pabie I urged them to ensure that their children were well dressed for school before they leave for their businesses and have regular interactions with their teachers on the activities of their wards.

He also reminded Ghanaians on the need to abide by the ruling of the Supreme Court to ensure peace in the society.

Ms Gifty Tsirakasu, Proprietor of the School, said it was established in September 2010 with four children but it now has a student population of 200.

She said besides having inadequate classrooms, the school lacks certain facilities like computer laboratory, library and classrooms and appealed to all interested in the development of education in the society to come to their aid.
