Enchi College principal exposed

It has emerged that one of the two teachers at Enchi Training College (ENCHICO), a teacher training college in the Western Region, who allegedly engaged in some corrupt practices at the college, is a brother to the principal of the college, Victoria Aidoo.

DAILY GUIDE gathered that even though the two teachers are currently furthering their education at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), they were receiving salaries from the college.

“The two teachers are being paid their salaries even though they did not apply for study leave with pay.”

It would be recalled that the paper recently reported that some teachers of the institution were up in arms against the authorities of the school for allegedly presiding over some illegalities at the college.

The angry teachers alleged that the authorities of the college are aware of the alleged illegalities, but had failed to take action.

Jerous Smith, an English teacher of the college, in an interview with DAILY GUIDE, mentioned the names of the two teachers as Philip Ntaah, Vice President, Academic and Solomon Appiah, Religious and Moral Education (RME) teacher of the college.

“Philip Ntaah is a brother of the college’s principal and that after the first publication by DAILY GUIDE; the principal remarked that that will be the end the issue and will not go anywhere so those behind can do whatever they like.”

The English teacher of ENCHICO alleged that the behaviour of the principal had demoralized the teachers and workers at the college.

“Even though I have been commenting and condemning the alleged illegalities at the college at staff meetings as a member of the College’s Council, the principal continues to preside over this unlawfulness with impunity,” he added.

“Why should some teachers of the college who are currently furthering their education at the UCC still receive salaries from the college even though they have left the college and did not apply for study leave,” Jerous Smith asked.

Mr Smith, who claims to be the staff secretary of the college stated, “We know that the law stipulates that a teacher wishing to further his or her education should apply for study leave with pay.

“I have decided to come out because I suspect a fishy deal between the college authorities and the teachers who had left but continue to receive salaries from the college,” the ENCHICO English teacher told DAILY GUIDE.

Apart from the issue raised, another rot at the college has to do with the collection of hall dues by some teachers who have failed to properly account for the money, he stated.

“However, immediately after the DAILY GUIDE publication, the Principal ordered that all those who have been collecting the dues should account for the money.”

Mr Jerous Smith appealed to the Ghana Education Service (GES) and all those concerned to visit the college to investigate the matter since the alleged deal was aimed at siphoning state funds.

When DAILY GUIDE initially contacted the Principal of Enchi Training College, Madam Victoria Aidoo, she told the paper that she would only comment if the paper reveals the names of the informants.

When the paper called her yesterday and mentioned the name of the informant, she told DAILY GUIDE that the issue was an internal matter and that it should contact the Council chairman of the college for further comments.
