Obuasi, June 26, GNA - The encroachment on the school land of the Christ the King Catholic (CKC) Secondary School at Obuasi-Akapoliso has become so alarming that the authorities fear the situation might have negative effect on the infrastructure and academic progress of the school.
Mr Solomon Oduro Sabregah, the headmaster of the school told the press at Obuasi, "there is too much encroachment on the school land and despite the fact that we are working on the lease, people do not care about their activities".
The headmaster, who conducted the press round the encroached area, observed, "the school will have no site to develop in future". Mr Sabregah said the way people were encroaching on the land had been forwarded to the Obuasi Muncipal Assembly, adding that the Board of Governors of the school had gone round to assess the situation. He said the school did not want to enter into litigation with anybody and had therefore warned the encroachers to stop their activities or else they would be compelled to go to court. "What people do not know is that the new boundaries of the school had been agreed upon with the Dompoase stool and that the boundaries have not changed and therefore those encroaching upon are doing so at their own peril", he stressed.
Mr Sabregah said the school had a future for expansion and that the current encroachment was not a healthy practice for the promotion of education. "We are gradually finding bungalows for masters and as it is, the encroachment will affect the administration of the school including effective teaching and learning". Mr Sabregah advised the people around the school community to give prominence to secondary education by assisting the administration to protect the school lands from further encroachment. 26 June 06
