Over 12.1 million textbooks have been distributed across the country and that has ensured the meeting of government's target of one pupil to one textbook.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Friday when discussions on Education in the 2014 Budget took center stage, a Deputy Minister of Education, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, said government could not meet its target of 1:3 in 2008.
“At the primary level, it was 1:6 and at the junior high school (JHS) level it was 2:1,” he said.
However, Mr Okudzeto, who is also Member for North Tongu Constituency, emphasized that government has achieved its target in 2012 with the bringing in of the 12.1 million textbooks.
“This government has the track record,” he says.
It is unclear which schools the textbooks have been sent to as TV3’s reports on education in the country have revealed massive dearth in educational materials in many public schools.
