The Volta Regional Environmental Health Officers Welfare Union (VREHOWU), has embarked upon membership drive to grow the Union into a bastion for members.

Mr Adams Bunbunkey, Chairman of the Union, at its maiden Regional Delegates Conference in Ho, said the numerical strength of the Union had recently decreased from about 300 to less than 200 members, and traced the occurrence to among others, service retirements.

The Chairman said a total of 50 members retired in 2018, in addition to transfers of its members and appealed to new officers and non-members to join the Union.

He said the Union, since its formation in September 2011, succeeded in securing the welfare of its members, and had recently purchased a Treasury Bill and acquired land at Fodome in the Hohoe Municipality for a hostel project.

Mr Bunbunkey said the Union was undertaking registrations of new staff posted to the Region, and asked Environmental Health Workers to consider the Union a cradle of care and unity.

The Chairman was re-elected, in addition to six others to head the Union for a five year term.

Mr Richard Ahiagbede, Regional Director, Environment Health, who swore in the executives, charged them to ensure that the Union was well managed and provided for the welfare of members.

A three member committee was set up to review the Constitution of the Union.
