Essumeja (Ash), Feb 16, GNA - The Essumeja Youth Association has appealed to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, to intervene to resolve the impasse over the installation of a new Paramount Chief for the Traditional Area.

The Stool has been vacant since the death of Odeneho Oduro Numapau II, the Omanhene, in August 2003.

The kingmakers are unable to find common ground on the preferred royal from the Aduana family to nominate for installation. The delay, the youth said, is having adverse effect on the socio-economic development of the area.

Mr Kofi Ofori-Dwomoh, Chairman of the Association, said at a press conference at Essumeja that the lack of a substantive traditional ruler had become a bother and must be tackled with some urgency. Pressure, they said, must be put on the kingmakers to end the indecision and restore the unity and the communal spirit of the people. Nana Adwoa Nyankonpon, the Queen of Essumeja, gave the assurance that every effort is being made to elect a new Omanhene within the shortest possible time.

Some of the kingmakers are kicking against her nominee for the Stool, Osei Kwadwo, a software engineer. The matter, she said, was before the Asantehene and she expressed the hope that it would soon be determined to pave way for the installation. She appealed to the people to remain calm and allow the right thing to be done.
