Takoradi, Feb. 22,-GNA-Women's groups within the Shama Ahanta East Metropolis have called on the government, as a matter of urgency to establish a University within the Western Region. They noted that the region, which is endowed with all the natural resources was lagging behind other regions which all have Universities for the training of the youth. This was contained in a communiqu=E9 issued by several women's groups within the metropolis at the close of a series of seminar organized by the Department of Women at Takoradi on Thursday. They appealed to the Ministry of Women and Children's Affairs to convert its loans for women into a co-operative. They noted that though several funds had been made available to banks for disbursement to women some of the banks are refusing to disburse the funds and thus depriving the women from accessing the funds. They called on the government to adequately resource the Department of Social Welfare to enable it to perform its requisite functions effectively. The communiqu=E9 again called for the allocation of resources to the various assembly members to enable them to undertake development projects within their respective communities. They also suggested that a national house of female traditional rulers should be established to enable women to deliberate effectively among themselves and strategies for the development of their respective communities. 22 Feb. 07
