Establish sanitation courts - DCE

Apam (C/R), Jan 17, GNA - The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Gomoa, Ms Joyce Aidoo, has called for the establishment of sanitation courts to deal swiftly with people who do not maintain environmental cleanliness.

Speaking at a clean-up exercise at Apam, the DCE said her call had become necessary because waste management had become the greatest challenge facing Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies. The District Assembly in collaboration with Zoom Lion, Accra based Waste Management Company organized the exercise. The DCE noted that efforts to make Ghanaians sanitation conscious to maintain a clean environment was not making any impact and said, "I feel prosecution at sanitation courts with heavy fines will do the trick."

"Environmental protection is protecting our health since most of the common diseases in the country are caused by filth," Ms Aidoo stated. She commended the company for supporting the exercise with 50 rakes and the same number of shovels and gloves, 100 brooms, 15 Wellington boots and a tipper truck.

Nana Edu Effrim X, Apaahene, Nana Essel Botwe II, Queenmother and some leaders of the Asafo Companies took part in the exercise, which have been planned for Apam and some towns for the Golden Jubilee Independence Celebration.
