Awutu Panim (C/R), Jan. 7, GNA - Nai Kwao Otuo V, a member of the Awutu Traditional council, has advocated the establishment of more cocoa processing factories in the country to add value to the commodity to guard against glut of cocoa on the world market.
He said apart from adding value to the commodity, the factories if built would create employment for the youth and prevent them from drifting to the urban centres for non-existing jobs.
Nai Otuo who was also the 1994 second best national farmer, was addressing about 100 cocoa farmers at Awutu Gyakaw near Awutu Panim in the Central Region at an annual get together to run off the Christmas activities.
He commended the government for introducing HITEC cocoa seedlings and organising mass cocoa spraying thereby enabling Ghana to regain her position as the world's second highest cocoa producing country in the world.
Nai Otuo expressed the hope that the country could exceed her target in cocoa production in the succeeding years and appealed to the government to take more positive steps to revamp the cocoa industry.
