Mpobi (Ash), Jan 9, GNA- Nana Asante-Frempong, Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwabre, has said every Ghanaian has a responsibility to help enforce the laws of the country.

He said people should be bold to challenge unlawful actions in society and report such cases to the security agencies. Nana Asante-Frempong said it was only when people, sat up to challenge certain happenings in their communities that good governance could be achieved.

He was speaking at a forum at Mpobi in the Kwabre District of Ashanti on Wednesday as part of his interactions with the constituents to explain government policies and programmes to them. The MP indicated the government's willingness to develop the rural communities and asked them to work hard to complement government's efforts.

Nana Asante-Frempong said the practice where MPs were given money to initiate development projects in their constituencies came to an end with the inception of the district assemblies.

He said the money now comes in bulk to the assemblies where it is disbursed as the district assembly common fund with a small portion of it going to MPs for any meaningful community projects.

Nana Asante-Frempong said as MP what he does concerning the fund was to ensure that the assembly gets its share and then distributes his share to communities to support their projects.

"If you are not receiving your share of the common fund you should ask your assembly member or organise a forum and invite the District Chief Executive to explain things to you", he said.

The MP told the people that the constituency has now been divided into Kwabre East and Kwabre West and that they should exercise restraint for the demarcation to be done by the Electoral Commission (EC). Nana Kwaku Fokuo, Gyasehene of Mpobi, said they needed roofing sheets and cement for development projects and a toilet facility for the town.

He blamed the assembly member for not keeping close relations with the people and this had brought lack of development in the town. Mr Peter Inusah, Zongo chief of Mpobi, urged the MP to help the community to become an electoral area with its own assembly member.
