Ewe Community perform burial rites of eight family members

Kumasi, Sept 3, GNA-The Ashanti Regional Ewe Community and the Kumasi Ewe Chieftaincy Council, have performed the burial rites of eight members of the same family who lost their lives in a tragedic manner two months ago.

On July 1, 2005, eight members of the same family allegedly died through poisoning from "konkonte" flour at Tebeso Number Two in the Amansie-East District.

The deceased include Yao Tsiblu, 70, father, Okomfou Tsiblu, 65, mother, two adult sons and four of their grandchildren.

Speaking at the rites performing ceremony in Kumasi on Friday, Togbui Mawufeame Fugah, Chief of the Ewe Community in Kumasi, advised the bereaved family not to let the death of their family members dampen their resolve to face the challenges of life positively. He said even though it was a big blow to the family, it behoves them to muster courage and forget the tragedy.

Togbui Fugah entreated them to see the tragedy as part of life and cease apportioning blame for the death of their family members. He used the occasion to commend the Ashanti Regional Police Commander and the Regional Minister as well as the entire Ashanti community for not merely mourning with them, but being also very supportive during those trying times.

Mr. Doe Tamakloe, an Elder of the Ewe Community in Kumasi said even though they firmly suspect that the poisoning to death was planned , they are not ready to avenge their deaths, since vengeance rests with God.

The eight bodies were soon after the rites, conveyed to Dabala in the Volta Region for burial on Saturday, September 3.
