Tamale (N/R) Dec. 26, GNA - Executives of farmers based organisations have been called upon to work hard to resolve farmers problems at the grassroots to help eradicate poverty, hunger disease and illiteracy.
Mr Nashuri Kadri, President of Apex Farmers Organisation of Ghana (APFOG) made the call when he was elected into office at a general meeting of the organisation in Koforidua on Friday.
He said it was necessary for executives of farmers' organisations to be transparent, accountable and approachable to win the confidence of their members.
APFOG is made up of 29 registered farmers' organisations and 10 other members of crops/plant commodity groups throughout the country. Mr Kadri assured members of the organisation that the new executives would embark on an intensive membership drive to reach out to other farmers' organisation.
The ASPFOG Executive called on members of the organisation to extend their cooperation to the new executive to enable them to perform their duties effectively.
Mr Paul Kwasi Ntaanu of the Silk Culture Development Association was elected Vice President with Osofo Patrick Apullah, of the National Cotton Farmers Association as the General Secretary.
Mr Adam Tampuri of the Cashew Farmers Association is the treasury, while the post of National Organizer went to Mr. Fiifi Ampong of the Oil Palm Association.
