Akim Oda (E/R), June 22, GNA - The management of the Sun Rise Preparatory School has appealed to the government to assist the less endowed private schools, in their quest to assist in promoting teaching and learning, especially at the remotest areas of the country.

Mr David Asante, an educationist, who is also the Proprietor of the school based at Kwahu Adawso, in the Eastern Region, was addressing about 260 students of the school at Akim Oda in the Birim Central Municipality on Wednesday.

He noted that most of the private learning institutions were faced with financial difficulties, which retarded the smooth operations of schools.

According to him, government could assist in negotiating soft loans, accessing the GETFund, provision of school buses and infrastructure, supply of textbooks and the feeding programme.

Mr Asante stressed the need for the government to extend some of the facilities that public schools enjoy to the private schools, especially those operating in the rural areas, since they are not able to generate enough funds expected to run their schools.

He pointed out that though one may see private schools doing business, it is not all that lucrative in the remotest parts of the country.

He stated that the poor farmers could not pay their wards school fees, which is the source of the school's income, to employ qualified teachers,to construct workshops, provide computers and construct decent structures to help promote teaching and learning.
