Aweregya (E/R), March 24, GNA - The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA-Ghana) has organized a one-day mobile programme on human right issues, family and marriage laws and intestate succession, violence against women and children as well as preparation and implementation of Will for chiefs and people at Aweregya near Nkawkaw. The objective of the programme was to educate and explain human rights issues and the various fundamental laws to the people to address discriminatory practices in the society to promote and protect the rights of women and children.
Aweregya (E/R), March 24, GNA - The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA-Ghana) has organized a one-day mobile programme on human right issues, family and marriage laws and intestate succession, violence against women and children as well as preparation and implementation of Will for chiefs and people at Aweregya near Nkawkaw. The objective of the programme was to educate and explain human rights issues and the various fundamental laws to the people to address discriminatory practices in the society to promote and protect the rights of women and children. Addressing chiefs, women, men and children in the farming community, the Executive Director of FIDA-Ghana, Mrs Jane Quaye, advised couples to register their marriages at the courts and district assemblies to enable women and children to benefit from their husband's estate. She said under the PNDC law 111, the wife and children should benefit from the deceased husband estate if he died intestate. Mrs Quaye said anybody above 18 years could make a Will to state how his estate should be distributed after his death. She advised married men to avoid human rights abuses against women and could seek divorce for the woman to have her peace. 24 March 10
