FSRS donates to Fair Wages and Salaries Commission

Accra, Aug. 11, GNA - The Public Sector Reform Secretariat (PSRS), on Tuesday presented five vehicles and office equipment to the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) to enhance the work of the Commission.

Mr Alhassan Azong, Minister of State responsible for the Secretariat, announced this at the signing of Memorandum of Understanding between the two institutions to strengthen exiting relationship.

He said that the FWSC was benefiting from 1,556,500.00 dollars under the Economic Capacity Building Project, to procure office and Information and Communication Technology equipment and internet connectivity, vehicles and to develop a financial management system to implement its approved work plan.

Mr Azong said that there was the need to support the FWSC to enable it to deliver its functions.

He said the key component of the Secretariat was the Pay Reform, which was necessitated by perennial challenges under successive governments due to inequities and distortion in salaries and wages within the public sector.

"The Pay Reform entails the development of a new Pay Policy and Administration system to ensure equity, fairness and transparency", said Mr Azong.

Mr. Enoch Teye Mensah, Minister for Employment and Social Welfare, said the relationship between the two institutions was by virtue of FWSC's mandate to address a new pay policy, which was a wider public service reform agenda.

"It is for the reason that the PSRS has the responsibility to resource the commission within the limits of funds availability, in order to facilitate its delivery mandate" he said.

Mr. George Smith Graham, Chief Executive of FWSC, said the Commission had undergone changes with the support from PSRS and other bodies without which the Single Spine Pay Policy would have being difficult to implement.
