Nkwanta (V/R), Nov. 9, GNA - A one-week capacity building workshop for batch 17 facilitators of the Functional Literacy Programme (FLP) at Nkwanta in the Volta Region ended at the weekend. The workshop, which was organised by the Non-Formal Education Division (NFED) of the Ministry of Education, was attended by 100 participants drawn from Ho and Hohoe Municipal areas, Adaklu-Anyigbe, South and North Dayi, Kadjebi, Jasikan, Biakoye, Nkwanta-South and North, Krachi East and West Districts.
Topics treated include the Master Lesson Plan, the Adult Learner, Organisation and Management Techniques, Overview of the NFLP and the role of the facilitator.
Madam Cecilia Asare, Head of Administration of the NFED, in her closing remarks, said government was desirous of making those who could not go through formal education due to one reason or the other also have functional literacy skills.
She said the facilitators have a Herculean task on their hands but said with dedication and devotion they would be able to achieve the aim for which the FLP was set up.
Mad. Asare told the facilitators that "you have the third eye to enable you to read and write, kindly assist your unfortunate mothers, fathers and friends who can not do so". She told the facilitators to be up and doing and see their work as "service to mother Ghana and God".
Mrs Evelyn Goni, Volta Regional Coordinator of the NFED, advised the facilitators to be patient and tolerant as some of those who they would handle were old.
She said the NFED would give them the needed support to make their work successful. The facilitators appealed to the NFED to extend the duration of future workshops to two months as the one week was too short for the over 10 topics treated.
