Facilities at Dagbamate community school upgraded

Dagbamate, July 15, GNA - Mr Kofi Dzamesi, Deputy Volta Regional Minister, has commissioned a 450-million-cedi headmaster's bungalow, and a library for Dagbamate community Basic School at Dagbamate, a farming community in the Akatsi District.

Mr Kwasi Dunyo, a Professor of African Music and Dance at the University of Toronto in Canada, and a citizen of the town, financed the two-bedroom bungalow and was instrumental in soliciting educational materials valued at 950 million cedis from Canadian students for the 41-year old school.

Mr Jerry Pittman, Chief Executive Officer of Progressive Horizon, a US-based non-governmental organisation (NGO, is financing a junior secondary school block for the school.

Mr Dzamesi commended Mr Dunyo for opening up the Dagbamate community for development.

He said Government would take over the running of the school's kindergarten as part of a nationwide programme.

Mr Nicholas Negble, Akatsi District Chief Executive, said the District Assembly was working hard to change the poor infrastructure of some basic schools.

He acclaimed Mr Pittman for donating pharmaceutical products and equipment to the District Assembly for distribution to health institutions in the District and helping to upgrade Akatsi Health Centre to a modern hospital.
