Faithfulness and respect foster good industrial relations

Tema, Feb. 13, GNA - The Tema branch officer of the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union, Mr Morgan Ayawine has stressed the need for social partners to be faithful and respect each other in the dispensation of justice in all industrial relations matters. He said this would enhance congenial relationships and peaceful industrial conditions.

Mr Ayawine, however, asked all employers and workplace unions to ensure that durbars were held regularly to allow for a broader exchange of ideas and views between employers and workers.

Workers through these would feel the sense of belongingness in the formulation and execution of policies and programmes of the work organisations and this will foster peaceful co-existence at every workplace, he added.

Mr Ayawine said these when he inaugurated the seven-member union executives of the Cocoa Processing Company (CPC) in Tema on Friday. Mr Albert Adoari, Chairman, Mr Kingsley Owusu, Vice Chairman, Mr Darlington Afari-Dwamena, Secretary, Mr Sule Tolon Alabira, Trustee and Ms Christian Martey as its executive member constitute the union executive.

Mr Ayawine reminded union leaders not to see themselves as only servants to their members but also "instruments of leadership whose duty it is to complement the efforts of employers in promoting productivity and economic growth at both enterprise and national levels". He advised the newly elected officers against the use of divisive tendencies and to work hard in unity and dedication to achieve the aspirations of its members.

The Chairman, Mr Albert Adoari expressed his gratitude to members for the confidence reposed in them and promised to continue with the good work of his predecessors.

He hoped members would put all their differences aside and with unity support him to sustain the good relations that already existed in the company.

He stated categorically that the company's support for the ICU concerning the impasse between it and the Trades Union Congress (TUC) and alleged that, for past years that the CPC union was under the TUC, the Union did not experience any negative impact on it. The out-going Union Chairman, Mr Rockson Asare urged the newly elected officers not to play politics in the business of the company but to work hard to achieve a better conditions of service for them before the end of their term in office. .
