A Cape Coast circuit court, presided over by Mr Ohene Essel, on Wednesday granted bail to Kojo Eduafo, a 20-year-old mechanic from Mankessim, in the sum of 10 million cedis with a surety for dealing in fake Ghanaian currency.

Eduafo, who pleaded not guilty would re-appear on Monday May 5.

Prosecuting, Inspector Samuel Addae told the court that the complainant in the case is a cooked food seller at Mankessim.

He said on July 26 last year, the complainant went to the Mankessim-Accra station to sell her food and after the day's sales, she detected that there were two fake five thousand notes among the money.

On the next day, she again went out to sell when a small boy came with a 5,000 cedis note to buy 4,000 cedis worth of food and she gave him a change after serving him.

The court heard that shortly after that, the boy came back again with another 5,000 cedis note to buy 1,500 cedis worth of food and the food seller detected that the note was substandard.

When she asked the boy how he came by the money, he mentioned Eduafo as the one who sent him.

He said Eduafo was immediately arrested and when he was asked of the source of the money he could not give any answer.

The money was sent to the bank of Ghana for clarification and after police investigations, he was charged with the offence, the prosecution added.
