Fanteakwa Assembly Approves 200 Million Cedis For PSI On Cassava

The Fanteakwa District Assembly has approved 200 million cedis of its share of the Poverty Alleviation Fund for the President's Special Initiative (PSI) on cassava in the area. The Assembly has, therefore, established an agriculture sub-committee to over-see the successful implementation of the project and other related agriculture programmes.

The District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Ebenezer Ofoe Caesar, who made this known at the assembly's sitting on Friday, said the low revenue collected was due to the breakdown of the revenue mobilisation van and the absence of a revenue Inspector in the past two years.

He said, consequently, the assembly could not initiate new development projects but expressed the hope that the on-going ones could be completed. The (DCE) said the assembly had instituted a mechanism to monitor the work of revenue collectors to generate more funds for development.

Mr Caesar said the assembly was to benefit from the Social lnvestment Fund (SIF) and would pay a commitment fee of 100 million cedis for projects to be undertaken under the fund. He urged assembly members to respect traditional authorities and desist from meddling in chieftaincy and land disputes. The Member of Parliament for Fanteakwa, Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo urged assembly to educate women on the need to register customary marriages.
