Begoro, Aug. 12, GNA- Circuit Supervisors of Education in Fanteakwa District have urged government to correct anomalies in the salary structure of teachers in the area. The Supervisors complained that some junior staff of the Ghana Education Service were earning either the same or higher salary than their seniors and called for efforts to rectify the situation. The officials cited that teachers on the Senior Superintendent grade were receiving equal salary with those on the Principal Superintendents grade or even higher. He also indicated that some teachers on the Principal Superintendent grades were also receiving higher or equal salary with teachers on the Assistant Director's grade. These remarks were made when the circuit supervisors met the staff of Controller and Accountant-General's Department at Begro in the district.

Mr. Edward Wiafe, the Assistant Director in-charge of Supervision, alleged that most teachers in the district had their salaries reduced during the implementation of the transitional salary structure of teachers in October last year. He expressed concern at the delay in processing the salaries of newly appointed pupil teachers and the adjustment of salaries for promoted teachers to new ranks. A spokesman for the supervisors, Mr J.S.Y. Tettevi, expressed concern about the use of the identity card numbers of some teachers without their knowledge by their colleagues to purchase items on credit sales.

He explained that such illegal practice was causing financial difficulties to victims whose had to pay for the items through salary deductions.
