Abetifi (E/R), July 6, GNA- There was panic at Abetifi in the Eastern Region, when a 45-year-old farmer, Mr Kwame Boamah who attempted to rescue a 14-year-old boy from drowning in a well, also got drowned. An eyewitness account said Kwabena Ebenezer, was sent by his parents to fetch water from the Nkokode well, one of the main sources of water in the town.

He said in his attempt to fetch the water, Ebenezer fell into the well so some on-lookers called on Mr Boamah, who was on his farm nearby, to come to Ebenezer's rescue but he also got drowned when he entered the well.

The eyewitness said the two bodies were later retrieved from the well, following the intervention of Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) personnel brought from Nkawkaw.

The bodies have been deposited at the Kwahu Government Hospital at Atibie for autopsy.

An officer of the GNFS said the well was poorly constructed and urged communities to seek advice from the Service when constructing such wells.

When the Abetifi Police was contacted, they confirmed the incident and said investigations were still going on into the incident.
