Mankranso (Ash), Oct 8, GNA- The Mankranso magistrate's court on Wednesday remanded a 30-year-old farmer from Biemso Number One in the Ahafo-Ano South district in prison custody for murder.

Anthony Kyeremeh's plea was not taken and will re-appear on October 14.

Police Inspector Carl Michael Adjeng told the court that the accused credited a bed-sheet valued at 40,000 cedis from Madam Yaa Benewah, paid half of it and promised to settle the rest in a week's time.

He said when Madam Benewah travelled from Kumasi to Biemso Number One to collect the rest of the money the accused refused to pay the remaining amount.

Inspector Adjeng said on April 10, this year, Madam Benewah demanded the bed-sheet and out of anger, he gave it back to her and in return asked for the refund of the 20,000 cedis he had earlier paid. The prosecution said Madam Benewah asked the accused to let her sell the bed-sheet to enable her get the money to refund the amount. Inspector Adjeng said this infuriated the accused and entered his room and took a cutlass and started slashing her but the timely intervention of people around prevented him from doing more havoc on the woman.

He said Madam Benewah was rushed to the Mankranso Government Hospital but she died shortly on admission. Inspector Adjeng said the accused on hearing about the death of Madam Benewah fled the town but was arrested on September 22 this year following a tip-off.
