Tepa (Ash), Nov.7, GNA- Nana Oppong Fordjour, the District Chief farmer in the Ahafo Ano North district in Ashanti has expressed farmers' appreciation to the government for making efforts to motivate them to increase production.
The chief farmer was speaking at a forum organised by the Cocoa, Coffee and Shea-nut Farmers Association in the district at Tepa on Thursday. The forum, attended by 200 farmers expressed its appreciation to the government for the recent increase in the producer price of Cocoa.
He commended the District Task Force for the efficient manner they are handling the Cocoa Spraying exercise and pleaded with the government to continue with the exercise.
He appealed to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) to allow the farmers to pay 50 percent instead of 80 percent cost of Hi-Tech services to them due to delay of rains which affected its application this year.
He informed the farmers that officials of the Cocoa Board will be at Tepa on November 17 and 18, 2003, to distribute scholarship application forms to farmers whose wards sat the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in July this year and have entered any government assisted second cycle school. He asked those interested to come along with their Farmers Passbook, Original BECE results slip and letters admitting their wards to school of their choice.
