Farmers urged to assist NADMO in fire prevention

Nkoranza (B/A) Jan. 5, GNA - Farmers in the country have been advised to collaborate with the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), to prevent bushfires, especially in the harmattan period. Mr. Benson Boadum Acheampong, Nkoranza District Coordinator of NADMO, gave the advice when he addressed zonal coordinators of the organization at a meeting at Nkoranza to find ways of preventing bushfires in the area. He expressed worry that despite the educational campaigns on bushfire, the menace had persisted and asked the coordinators to regularly sensitize the people on the causes and effects of bushfires.

He expressed worry that despite the educational campaigns on bushfire, the menace had persisted and asked the coordinators to regularly sensitize the people on the causes and effects of bushfires. Mr. Acheampong called on members of assembly and unit committees and traditional authorities to support local fire volunteers to prevent bushfires. He cautioned the youth of Ayerede, Asuano and Baanofour in the area to desist from polluting water bodies with poisonous chemicals. Mr. Acheampong reminded the people that the ban on group hunting was in force and offenders would be arrested and prosecuted. He particularly cautioned palm wine tappers to be careful about their activities to avoid the outbreak of bushfires. Mr. Acheampong appealed to opinion leaders to help educate the public about the effects of bushfires on development.
