Anyinasu (Ash), Oct 31, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor on Sunday appealed to farmers, especially vegetable farmers to be discrete in the application of agro-chemicals on food crops.
He deplored the indiscrete use of agro-chemicals on food crops just to enable them ripen and mature early at the expense of the health of consumers.
President Kufuor made the appeal when addressing a durbar of the chiefs and people of Anyinasu in the Ejura-Sekyedumasi District as part of his six-day official tour of the Ashanti Region.
He addressed a similar durbar held in his honour at Sekyedumasi too.
President Kufuor said, "farmers who in the quest for quick money, do so at the expense of the health of consumers should refrain from such unpatriotic and unhealthy acts".
President Kufuor told the people that the ongoing rehabilitation of the Aframso-Sekyedumasi road would be extended to Anyinasu and surrounding communities to facilitate the carting of produce from farming communities to market centres.
He directed the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) and the Ejura-Sekyedumasi District Assembly to construct a clinic for the Anyinasu town.
President Kufuor appealed to the people to vote massively for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and return it to power to continue with the socio-economic developments in the country.
Nana Boakye Ampem, Nifahene of Anyinasu, noted that the NPP Government had undertaken many development projects that had improved the living standards of the people.
He appealed for the rehabilitation of the Kyekyewere - Anyinasu - Wiamoase - Kofiase - Asante Mampong road. Nana Ampem also suggested to the Government to take serious action on the indiscriminate use of agro-chemicals for the cultivation of food crops.
He suggested that with the efficient performance of the economy, the NPP Government should be returned to power unopposed. Mr Kwadwo Baah Wiredu, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports; Dr Richard Winfred Anane, Minister of Roads and Transport and Mr Albert Kan-Dapaah, Minister of Communications accompanied President Kufuor.
