A DAF vehicle with registration number AS 5841-24, loaded with goods, rammed into a container used as a food joint at Ash-Town in Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital, causing extensive damage.

The incident occurred on Thursday, October 3, 2024, around 12:00 in the afternoon. No casualties were recorded, according to information obtained from eyewitnesses by OTEC NEWS.

The DAF driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle after the roof panels broke, causing it to veer off the main road leading to Nana Buabase junction.

Eyewitnesses, including Samuel Kojo Kyeremateng, the driver, stated that he was coming from the Manhyia area and heading towards Ash-Town to offload the goods when the incident occurred.

The driver allegedly failed to control the vehicle on the hilly road at Ash-Town (Nana Buabasa Junction) and veered towards a Blue Toyota Metrix with registration number GS 6160-11, pulling down a container before colliding with an MTN pole in the area.

"We saw a DAF vehicle from Nana Buabasa Junction with the roof panels broken. My uncle was in a KIA vehicle, which nearly got crashed. The trailer later hit an Elantra and a Toyota Metrix and then rammed into the container,” male eyewitnesses told OTEC NEWS.

They further explained that the truck crashed into the container seconds after a food seller with two children left.

The eyewitnesses commended the driver for his bravery, noting that if he had not made noise to alert passersby, many lives could have been lost.

When OTEC NEWS visited the accident scene, the vehicle was still stuck in the container, and the driver was unharmed.

The Assembly member for the area, Mr. James Owusu Boakye, who was also at the scene, said he immediately called the Police and MTTD to respond. He also contacted the Manhyia Fire Service because one of the vehicles involved in the accident was leaking and had a gas cylinder, posing a potential fire hazard.
