RED ALERT! FEAR GRIPS ADENTA RESIDENTS, STRANGE SKIN/EYE DISEASE HITS THEM AFTER DRINKING WATER POISONED BY ?MOBIL GHANA LTD ?OPERATIONS?
Some residents of Adenta in their quest for good drinking water in the face of the perennial scarcity of water in the area have ended up on hospital beds after drinking water, which has been poisoned by chemical (oil) seepage from underground storage tanks of a Mobil Filling Station.
Children and everybody in the Kumedzro residence have been suffering dysentery, vision problems, eye itches, skin diseases, rashes and other forms of ailment as a result of the pollution and contamination of their hand dug well estimated to be 75 feet deep in the household by products suspected to be petrol and diesel from the Mobil filling station in Adenta.
The contamination and pollution have been confirmed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Ministry of Science and Environment.
Mr Jonathan Allotey, Director of EPA, confirmed to the paper that his outfit was seriously working on the matter.
Meanwhile, the Mobil Filling Station Manager, Mr. Quartey is said to have taken out the old tanks which were suspected to have caused the leakage and replaced them with new ones.
The contamination has extended to more than 200 metres beyond the filling station, sources said.
