Dr Joyce Aryee, Chief Executive Officer of Salt and Light Ministry, has called on parents to encourage their female children to take their science and mathematics education seriously.

She said science and mathematics are the subjects that could propel the country into the modern technological advancement taking place across the world.

Dr Aryee made the call at the 69th Speech and Prize-Giving Day of the Aburi Girls Senior High School at Aburi in the Eastern Region.

The event was on the theme: “Empowering Female through Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics Education.”

She said with hard work and dedication, females could become scientists and engineers, professions now dominated by males.

Dr Aryee, who was also former Chief Executive of Ghana Chamber of Mines, commended the past students and staff of the school for turning out females who are rubbing their shoulders with their male counterparts in all aspects of the country’s development.

Ms Rosmond Bampo, Headmistress of the school, said lack of accommodation for the staff is hampering academic work.

She appealed to government, corporate bodies and corporate institutions for assistance to reverse the trend.

Ms Bampo commended the 1965 and 1990 Year Groups of the school for their contribution towards the development of their alma mater.

She said discipline would remain a cornerstone of the school as it continues to turn out students who would continue to contribute towards the development of the country.

Dr Joana Tetteh, a Member of the 1965 Year Group, who chaired the function urged the students to take their studies seriously to maintain the dignity of the school.

Students, staff and past students who excelled during the year were awarded with prizes and certificates.
