Feuding Nimoro and Fielimoa farmers to embrace dialogue

Wa, June 8, GNA - The protracted land dispute between Nimoro and Fielimoa people in the Sissala West District that nearly disturbed the peace in the Upper West Region, has been massaged and the two communities have agreed to a dialogue.

Kuorobarecheh Nelowie Baninye II, Acting President of the Buwa Traditional Council said the body had agreed to allow farmers to return to their farms while appropriate measures were taken to resolve the feud amicably.

He called for reforms in his traditional area to help resolve all land disputes.

Kuorobarecheh Banunye was briefing newsmen in Wa on Wednesday after a meeting with the Regional Minister, Alhaji Issahaque Salia on the issue. He said Sissalas were peace loving people and were against war, however the chiefs and people want recognition that the land belonged to them.

The Buwa Council would convene a general meeting on June 23, which is expected to be attended by all parties involved in the dispute to facilitate dialogue.

"The issue of no farming is no more and all should therefore return to their farms. Peace must not be allowed to suffer in the area," Kuorobarecheh Baninye said.

Alhaji Salia expressed his gratitude to the Buwa Council for collaborating with the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) to give peace a chance.

He said REGSEC would do all that it takes to unite the Sissala and Daagaba communities to live peacefully and pool resources to help develop the area.

Mr Robert Wavei, Sissala West District Chief Executive said peace was what everybody cherished and advised stakeholders in the area to avoid litigants and self seeking people to benefit from the dispute.
