Financial support for mothers in KEEA District

Elmina, May 13, GNA - About 2,522 mothers and care-givers in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) district will be assisted with loans under the district's Local Initiative Fund (LIF), to enable them to expand their economic activities to improve upon their standard of living.

The scheme that form part of the second phase of a Community-Based Nutrition Programme, is one of the three components of the Community-Based Poverty Reduction Project and is being financed under the World Bank's 'Learning and Innovation Loan Facility'.

Nana Ato Arthur, the District Chief Executive, announced these at the first ordinary meeting of the second session of the assembly at Elmina on Wednesday.

He said the implementation of the nutrition programme in ten communities in the district have been successful, and there had been increases in immunisation and family planning coverage, iodated salt consumption and the usage of treated mosquito nets. Nana Arthur said 120 community members also received training so that they could assist mothers in ensuring proper child growth and development.
