A fire outbreak at the girls’ dormitory of the Saboba E/P Senior High School in the Northern Region has led to the death of one student at the dormitory.
The dormitory caught fire on Wednesday afternoon, January 22, 2025, and it was when the fire subsided that her charred remains were retrieved.
The fire caused substantial damage to the dormitory and destroyed the property of the students.
Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) were at the scene but could not do much to salvage the situation.
Assistant Divisional Officer (1) Yussif Issahaku, Saboba District Commander, GNFS, told the press that the pump of the fire tender failed to function, forcing personnel of the GNFS to use buckets of water in an attempt to douse the flame.
He said investigations had begun to unravel the cause of the fire.
