Accra, July 5, GNA - Mr Samuel Valis Akyianu, a former Chief Fire Officer, has urged personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service to let discipline, love, unity and hard work be their guide.
He said it is only when they embrace discipline, devotion and dedication to duty that they will be able to work to achieve success. Mr Akyianu, who is now Ghana's Ambassador to Serbia, made the call at a Get-together, to climax the 20th Anniversary celebration of Cadet Intake 3/Course 26 of the National Fire service in Accra.
The Celebration was under the theme 93Service to the people". The group earlier donated Fire extinguishers and Smoke detectors to the Osu Children's Home
The Ambassador charged the personnel to be disciplined, see themselves as one people, respect authority and ensure that they obey laid down rules and guide lines of the service.
Deputy 0fficer Class 111, Felix N. M. Lamptey, Chairman of the Anniversary Planning Committee, said the group was the first batch to be trained in weapon handling in the service, in July 1991.
He said with hard work and dedication to duty, most of them are now Directors, Regional and District Officers and Officers in charge in various capacities.
Mr Ben. C Eghan, Secretary to the Cabinet, urged the personnel to upgrade themselves periodically, to enable them to be abreast with modern policies techniques.
He said this would enable them to render better service to the people when the need arises.
Mr Eghan, who was a former Dean at the Ghana Institute Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), advised the Firemen to execute their duties with maturity and discipline, and also abide by the ethics of the service.
He urged them to educate the people on fire outbreaks to avoid calamities.
Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Mr Kwaku Ohene Obiri, who is also the Director of Legal Affairs of the Ghana Fire Service, who chaired the occasion, said the Welfare of the staff, capacity building, fire safety awareness, are strategies that have been put in place by the Fire Administration for its personnel to enable them to continue giving quality service to the nation.
