Nkoranza, (B/A) Oct. 27, GNA - Fire Volunteers in Nkoranza District of Brong Ahafo have threatened to lay down their tools during the harmattan season if the District Assembly failed to provide them with the needed logistics for their operations. A meeting of about 47 volunteers from 14 zones of the district expressed concern about the continued failure of the Assembly to attend to their demands for cutlasses, Wellington boots, torchlights and second-hand clothing.
Mr. Ofori Atta, acting district chairman and Mr. Yaw Osei, secretary said that in spite of several appeals made within the past three years to the Assembly for support, it had not offered any assistance. They expressed regret about how two of their colleagues lost their lives in the course of operations and their dependants were in a miserable state. The two were named as one Kwabena Adama from Brahoho in the district who fell ill and died at his home after fighting a bushfire in his area. Abdulai Kramo, the other deceased volunteer from Donkro-Nkwanta was also knocked down by a vehicle, while riding on a bicycle to attend to a bushfire case at Salamkrom. More CK/REA 27 OCT. 03
